Torres Law Group names Attorney James Barton as a Partner

TEMPE, Ariz. – December 30, 2015 – Torres Law Group, a leading political law firm in Arizona, has named James Barton as a Partner of the firm. Barton leads the firm’s political law division that includes advice on the formation and operation of political action committees, election law litigation and labor law lobbying.

Barton has been the counsel of record on numerous important election law cases including Arizona Free Enterprise v. Bennett, 131 S.Ct. 2806 (2011), before the United States Supreme Court, and Tobin v. Rea, 231 Ariz. 189 (2013), before the Arizona Supreme Court. He has provided advice to a variety of labor tables, social welfare non-profits, and independent expenditure committees including on HB 2305 referendum, the first successful statewide referendum in over 20 years. Barton currently advises the Arizona Democratic Party on campaign finance and political law matters and advises separate segregated funds of the following unions: UA Local 469, UA Local 598, IBEW Local 640 and UFCW Local 99.

Barton just celebrated his four year anniversary with Torres Law Group earlier this month. Prior to TLG, he served as an Assistant Attorney General, in the Arizona Solicitor General’s Office, and Associate Attorney at Perkins Coie, LLP, focusing on elections law, and clerked for Arizona Chief Justice Ruth V. McGregor.  Before graduating magna cum laude from Arizona State University’s College of Law, Barton worked as an NRC-licensed Senior Reactor Operator at Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station, and served as a Lieutenant  in the United States Navy.  Barton received his Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University in 1993.
