New Mexico contractor Tom Hagan Enterprises Inc. (THECO) began construction on a new project at the Barrancas Mesa Elementary School. The New Mexico Chapter of National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and IBEW Local 611 were alerted that there were payroll inconsistencies. They enlisted the help of Torres Consulting and Law Group’s compliance team to investigate.
TCLG found that seven of THECO’s employees were misclassified and subsequently owed thousands of dollars in back pay. New Mexico’s Public Works Minimum Wage Act helps workers keep contractors accountable.
Thanks to the team efforts of NECA, IBEW Local 611, and TCLG’s compliance team and the New Mexico Labor Relations Department, these seven workers received a total of $26,884.80 in wages that they would have otherwise lost out on.
